To Work without Harassment is your Fundamental Right.
The honourable SUPREME COURT OF INDIA on 13 Aug 1997, ordered that sexual harassment of women is a violation of the fundamental right of women at work. The fairer sex should feel safe at work place. The Supreme Court highlights some key points to define SEXUAL HARASSMENT:
- PHYSICAL TOUCH AND PRANKS
- DEMAND OF SEXUAL FAVOURS
- EVETEASING
- SEXUAL COMMENTS
- DISPLAY OF SEX VIDEOS
- ANY UNDESIRED PHYSICAL,VERBAL OR NON VERBAL INTENTION OF SEXUAL NATURE
Often such behaviour goes unpunished mostly because of hesitation on the part of women to report such behaviour out of a sense of shame or fear or both. It is important for women to protest against any behaviour that they feel is unwanted and unacceptable. The Women's Cell at MMMEC has been set up with the aim of providing women a platform to complain about any unwelcome behaviour.
You are being eveteased or harrassed ????
- DONT hesitate or feel shame. Tell the eveteaser that you find his behaviour untolerable
- Don't ignore the harassment in the expectation that it will stop by itself. Be bold to complain.
- Communicate with the person you trust about the misshappenning. It will give you the confidence to come forward and complain.
- Keep a record of all such incidents in memory. If you feel good to register a formal complaint then come forward. It will be helpful in future.
What action can be taken against the offender?
If it has been proved that the culprit has indulged in sexual harassment at work place judiciary action would be takenagainst him despite of his status in the institute (staff,faculty or student). The charges will be under INDIAN PENAL CODE and other laws. A complaint will be made and appropriate action in accordance with the law will be taken.
The Role of the Women's Cell
- Ensure that victims and the eye witness are not discriminated or suffered for their compliant.
- Take proactive measures towards the dignity of MMMEC COMMUNITY or ISSUES OF weaker sex so that MMMEC will be marvellous in its work place for ever..
